1. Role Overview

We are looking for an experienced Backend Engineer to develop backend services and integrations for Digital Banking solutions built on Backbase.

The role is part of a cross-functional Digital Banking Squad and works under the technical direction of the Squad Tech Lead while following engineering standards defined by the relevant Chapter.

1. Key Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain backend services, APIs, and integrations supporting Digital Banking journeys.
• Implement Backbase extensions and integrations following architecture and Backend Chapter standards.
• Integrate with Core Banking, Payments, Cards, IAM/CIAM, Customer, Notification, and other enterprise systems.
• Implement resilient integration patterns including timeout, retry, idempotency, error handling, and observability.
• Write unit and integration tests and participate actively in code reviews.
• Troubleshoot defects and production issues across distributed backend services.
• Work closely with Tech Lead, IT BA, QA, DevSecOps, and other engineers in the Squad.

1. Backbase Responsibilities

• Use Backbase standard capabilities first and apply customization only where justified.
• Understand relevant Backbase APIs, services, journeys, extension points, and integration patterns.
• Ensure implementations remain maintainable and compatible with future Backbase upgrades.
• Support SIT, UAT, release, and production troubleshooting for Squad-owned capabilities.

1. Engineering Quality

• Follow coding, Git, Pull Request, code review, testing, security, logging, and observability standards.
• Produce clean, maintainable, testable code and appropriate technical documentation.
• Participate in technical refinement, estimation, design discussions, and peer reviews.
• Identify technical debt and raise technical risks early to the Tech Lead.

1. Required Technical Skills

• Strong knowledge and hands-on experience with Java.
• Strong knowledge and hands-on experience with Spring Boot.
• Strong knowledge and hands-on experience with REST API / OpenAPI.
• Strong knowledge and hands-on experience with Microservices.
• Strong knowledge and hands-on experience with SQL / PostgreSQL or Oracle.
• Strong knowledge and hands-on experience with Kafka or RabbitMQ.
• Strong knowledge and hands-on experience with OAuth 2.0 / OpenID Connect.
• Strong knowledge and hands-on experience with Docker and basic Kubernetes.

1. Banking / Digital Banking Knowledge

• Banking knowledge experience is preferred but may be developed through project onboarding for candidates with strong core engineering skills.
• Understanding of Digital Banking concepts and customer journeys.
• Knowledge of Accounts, Payments/Transfers, Cards, Customer/Party, or related banking domains is desirable.
• Understanding of IAM/CIAM, authentication, authorization, MFA/FIDO, and entitlements is an advantage.
• Experience in banking or another regulated industry is preferred.

1. Backbase Experience

• Backbase Digital Banking Platform experience is preferred but may be developed through project onboarding for candidates with strong core engineering skills.
• Experience with Backbase APIs, services, journeys, or extensions is an advantage.
• Experience delivering Backbase solutions in a banking environment is highly desirable.

1. Collaboration & Ways of Working

• Work as part of a cross-functional Squad with shared ownership of delivery outcomes.
• Collaborate closely with Tech Lead, IT BA, QA, DevSecOps, UX/UI, and engineers from other disciplines.
• Participate in Chapter activities, technical knowledge sharing, and adoption of reusable engineering patterns.
• Communicate technical issues clearly and take ownership through resolution.

1. Experience

• 5+ years of relevant software engineering experience; stronger seniority may be preferred depending on Squad needs.
• Hands-on experience delivering production-grade enterprise applications.
• Experience with Agile/Scrum cross-functional product teams.
• Experience in Digital Banking or Financial Services is preferred.

• Features are delivered with good quality, security, maintainability, and production readiness.
• Chapter standards and reusable patterns are consistently followed.
• Automated testing and code quality remain strong.
• Technical defects and recurring production issues are minimized.
• The engineer contributes actively to Squad delivery and Chapter capability development.

• Digital Banking Tribe → Squad → Tech Lead → Cross-functional Engineers
• The Backend Engineer belongs to the relevant engineering Chapter for standards, competency development, and knowledge sharing, while day-to-day technical delivery is led by the Squad Tech Lead.
